Empire Glassworks has become so popular through innovation and technology. Using extremely strong and durable dichroic glass, Empire Glass uses a specific glassblowing technique called "lampworking" to create most of their glass water pipes, bubblers, and vapor rigs.

Originally developed by the aerospace industry for use in face shields in space suits, the brilliant optical effects of dichroic glass are due to numerous layers of metal oxides. As wavelengths of light pass through or reflect the glass, this creates an array of colors. Every piece of dichroic glass is unique with no two pieces alike.

Most of the colors are custom mixed. Every piece is carefully annealed in a kiln at over 1000 degrees F for strong and durable glass. The rich natural colors in Empire glassware are due to these higher temperatures. Some of the designs come from customer feedback.
